Job summary

The National Research Foundation is seeking a Qualified Electrician to inspect, maintain, and repair electrical installations and power lines. Qualifications

  • 5 years relevant experience in MV distribution power lines, transformers, protection, motors.
  • Certified to work on MV installations up to 33kV.
  • Valid Code C driver's license.

  • Perform fault finding, scheduled, and emergency maintenance on MV and LV installations.
  • Maintain records of equipment failures and inspections.

Job description

Position Summary:
Inspect, maintain, and repair all power lines, electrical installations, and electrical equipment. Perform new installations or modifications to existing installations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of all LV and MV installations
  • Perform fault finding, scheduled, and emergency maintenance on MV and LV installations
  • Implement modifications and new installations according to specifications
  • Operate switching and linking of MV switchgear
  • Maintain records of equipment failures, inspections, available spares, and service records

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate / National Certificate / Vocational 4 / N3, N4, N5 / NQF 4

Minimum Experience:

  • 5 years of relevant experience in MV distribution power lines, transformers, protection, motors, control circuits, motor/generator sets, and standby batteries

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Electrician - Trade Test
  • Certified to work on MV installations up to 33kV
  • Certified for switching and linking on 22kV and 33kV
  • Wireman's License (advantageous)
  • Valid Code C driver's license
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Knowledge:

  • MV and LV installations
  • Electrical drawings
  • MV and LV safety and switching regulations and procedures
  • Maintenance of standby generators and electrical motors
