Job summary

An established industry player is seeking a skilled Artisan to join their team in Cape Town. In this role, you will ensure production milestones are met while providing administrative support for ISO quality implementation. Your responsibilities will include reading mechanical and electrical drawings, performing fault finding, and managing procurement processes. The ideal candidate will have a Matric and be a Trade Tested Artisan with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in Mechanical or Diesel trades. Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as a tradesman in Mechanical/Diesel or as a Qualified Electrician.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure production milestones are met and provide ISO quality support.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings accurately.
  • Compile monthly KPI reports and update Health and Safety records.

Job description

Ensure that production / service milestones are met.

Provide administrator support in ISO quality implementation and maintaining system functionality.

Duties And Responsibilities
  1. Read mechanical / electrical drawings, bills of materials and route sheets.
  2. Read and use inside micrometres, outside micrometres as well as Depth micrometres.
  3. Measure and determine the end floats (clearance between bearing and end cover) as a backup support.
  4. Fit standard engine to alternators and measure deflection.
  5. Fit taper keys, typically, into couplings, sprockets etc.
  6. Fit standard generators kits and alternators.
  7. Fitting of couplings and drive plates to engine drive.
  8. Familiar with AC and DC control circuits and fault finding.
  9. Do various method of welding example SMAW or TIG from a quality perspective.
  10. Assist with all External / Internal Admin and Sales functions.
  11. Fault finding and repairs on site in the event of a generator failure where support will also be given by the Field Services department during load shedding.
Projects
  1. Managing Operational aspects of new / old projects, namely:
  2. Execution of product on time.
  3. Mechanical / Warranty repairs.
  4. Prepare Gensets for workshop testing.
  5. Prepare Gensets for FAT with client.
  6. Complete all QA / QC documents for dispatch.
  7. Updating digital record on company drive.
Procurement
  1. Request quotes from suppliers through relevant company procedures.
  2. Follow up if material is on time before factory floor require these items.
  3. Track status and progress of orders before shipments send to site.
Monthly Reports
  1. Compile KPI report information and send to QC Officer / Operations Manager.
  2. Update Health and Safety records and Report to H&S Officer.
  3. Report to the Operations Manager and Project Manager any forecasted project delays due to technical issues.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Matric & Trade Tested Artisan.
  2. Minimum 4 years’ experience as a tradesman Mechanical / Diesel or Qualified Electrician with Generator installation experience.
  3. Minimum 2 years Supervisory experience would be advantageous.
  4. Experience with MS Office, specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. A keen sense of urgency and a willingness to learn additional job-related skills.
  2. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language, Afrikaans will be an added advantage.
  3. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, including formal communications and making presentations.
  4. Ability to pay close attention to detail and coordinate various activities simultaneously.
  5. Must have excellent technical and communication skills.
  6. Ability to work well in a team setting and have good organizational skills.
  7. Must be able to work under pressure.
  8. Good telephone manner.
  9. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  10. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult situations.
  11. Must be able to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Predominantly office based in Cape Town.

Is subject to work beyond normal working hours, evenings, weekends and holidays should the need arise including standby duty.
