The Electrical Projects Manager, reporting to the General Manager, will be responsible for the management and delivery of land-based electrical engineering and infrastructure projects.
The incumbent shall direct and manage all manufacturing and project execution phases from planning to close-out stage in an economical and efficient manner.
This includes management of direct reports, seconded workers (internal service providers), and sub-contractors on site, ensuring they carry out work in accordance with company and customer policies, statutory requirements, specified drawings, specifications, codes of practice, standards, quality plans, and programs, within timeline and budget, while maintaining safety, health, security, industrial relations, and discipline within the responsibility area.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Administration and Support Services
- Updating procedures and relevant documentation to improve project execution maturity level and ISO compliance.
- Manage projects in strict compliance with the Project Management Framework.
- Enforce disciplined administration within project teams.
- Provide input to the project portfolio master schedule.
- Update detailed project schedules and monthly reports.
Project Planning
- Prepare tenders for electrical installation contracts and contribute during tender stages for other electrical engineering contracts.
- Define project scope and deliverables with the Commercial Team upon contract establishment.
- Create detailed work plans, identify activities, and allocate resources.
- Develop project completion schedules and coordinate planning meetings and site visits.
- Review and revise schedules with management, resources, and clients.
- Set objectives and evaluation measures for project completion.
Cost Control
- Monitor monthly budgets for costs and sales.
- Track progress versus budget in costs and sales.
- Estimate site instruction costs, final forecasts, and manage invoicing with Finance.
Project Resourcing
- Identify and allocate skilled project staff and contract consultants.
- Ensure proper orientation for project personnel.
People Management
- Manage team performance, communicate goals, and responsibilities.
- Plan staffing and resource loading.
- Develop contingency plans and succession strategies.
- Implement staff development plans and liaise with HR for workforce relations.
Operations and Construction Management
- Coordinate operations and construction activities.
- Focus on safety metrics like LTIFR and TRIR.
- Maintain schedule updates and monitor progress.
- Coordinate with site managers and generate relevant commercial documentation.
Document Control and Quality
- Deliver high-quality products and installations with Quality Manager support.
- Develop controls and certification processes.
- Ensure proper documentation, punch-listing, and defect rectification procedures.
Customer and Supplier Satisfaction
- Maintain good relations with customers and suppliers.
- Build partnerships and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Manage project close-out and post-implementation reviews.
Qualifications and Experience
- Recognized tertiary electrical engineering qualification / T4 or equivalent.
- At least 10 years' experience in electrical and instrumentation industry as Site Manager or Project Manager.
- Project and contract management experience.
- Knowledge of OHS Act legislation is advantageous.
- Proficient in MS Excel, MS Project, or Primavera P6.
- Strong communication skills and assertive business acumen.
- Ability to work under pressure.
