Overview

Electrical Engineer – Wind

South Africa

At Scatec, you get to work on something that matters. We develop, build, own, and operate renewable energy solutions that accelerate access to reliable and affordable clean energy. As part of a global and agile organisation, you will work with skilled colleagues across functions and geographies, take real ownership, and contribute to a company driven by the vision of improving our future.

At the heart of everything we do is our belief that we bring the energy – the energy for change, connection, and growth. It shapes how we collaborate, innovate, and create impact together.

If you are looking for a role where your contribution is visible, your development matters, and your work supports a more sustainable future, Scatec may be the right place for you.

Ready to make an impact?
Why this role matters

As an Electrical Engineer – Wind, you will support the engineering and delivery of technically compliant utility-scale wind projects across development, structuring, execution, and operations. Working alongside senior engineering team members, you will manage and lead allocated electrical engineering activities, technical assessments, investigations, and designs. Your expertise will help ensure that electrical systems, grid requirements, technical specifications, and contractual requirements are effectively incorporated throughout the project lifecycle and translated into safe, reliable, and high-performing renewable energy assets.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will take ownership of allocated electrical engineering and design activities across wind projects, including:

  • Support the development of technical business cases, project base cases, specifications, and electrical design requirements for utility-scale wind projects
  • Manage and coordinate technical assessments, investigations, due diligence studies, electrical system designs, and allocated engineering deliverables
  • Review technical documentation and contractual requirements, including PPAs, Grid Codes, Connection Agreements, EPC and O&M contracts
  • Support procurement activities through technical input into RFPs, supplier evaluations, technology selections, and technical contract schedules
  • Coordinate and review detailed engineering designs, ensuring electrical and technical requirements established during project structuring are incorporated into construction designs
  • Engage with utilities, suppliers, contractors, technical advisors, and other stakeholders to establish requirements and resolve technical matters throughout project development and execution
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including design changes, quality requirements, site inspections, electrical works, testing, and commissioning
  • Support project close-out and Technical Take Over (TTO), ensuring technical requirements and engineering deliverables are successfully completed

Your work will help translate strong electrical engineering design into reliable wind energy assets and contribute directly to the successful delivery and long-term performance of Scatec’s renewable energy portfolio.

What you’ll gain
  • Professional growth through ownership, exposure, and meaningful contribution from day one
  • Hands-on experience in a role where the challenge is energising, fast-moving, meaningful, and built on learning through doing
  • Broader commercial understanding through close collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Stronger electrical engineering and project delivery capabilities across the full renewable energy project lifecycle
  • Exposure to utility-scale wind projects from development and electrical design through construction, grid integration, commissioning, and operations
  • Experience working with high-voltage infrastructure, substations, electrical reticulation systems, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
What you’ll bring
Experience and qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • 7+ years’ electrical or electromechanical engineering experience, including at least 3 years within renewable energy
  • 4+ years’ experience working in a project environment, with experience in utility-scale wind project design and execution
  • 3+ years’ experience in electrical distribution and reticulation design, including the design of electrical reticulation systems
  • Experience using AutoCAD and working with engineering drawings, specifications, and technical design documentation
  • Experience or exposure to high-voltage networks, substations, grid infrastructure, and associated electrical systems
