Job summary

Network Recruitment is seeking a seasoned Electrical Engineer for protection systems and switchgear, requiring 5+ years of testing and commissioning experience across 380V to 33kV. You will troubleshoot faults, perform maintenance, repair wiring, and lead relay/configuration projects using OEM software in a mining environment.

Applicants should hold a BTech or degree in electrical engineering, with ECSA registration advantageous and ORHVS certification.

Qualifications

• BTech or Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Registration with ECSA advantageous.
• ORHVS certification required.
• 5+ years’ experience in testing & commissioning of protection systems and switchgear (380V – 33kV).
• Experience with fault finding, repairs and wiring of protection systems.
• Familiarity with MV mining networks and IEC 61850, Modbus protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of protection devices, metering equipment, and switching devices (LV & MV).
• Conduct advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of protection faults.
• Carry out equipment repairs, replacements, and wiring for protection systems and switchgear.
• Lead installation and configuration of protection relays, control systems, and metering equipment using OEM software.
• Oversee FAT, SAT, and site commissioning of switchgear, protection, control, and metering systems, including relay testing, transformer tests, fault simulations, and communication checks.
• Support MV/HV switching operations and isolation procedures in line with site standards.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

  • Familiarity with test equipment (digital secondary injection sets, CB analysers, ductors, thermal imaging, etc.).
• Strong understanding of MV mining networks, protection principles, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus, etc.).
