Job summary

Placements24 seeks an Electrical Engineer to join a fully remote team and focus on grid integration for renewable projects in South Africa. You will perform interconnection studies, develop requirements, and coordinate with utilities to secure grid connections to the national grid.

The ideal candidate has a BEng in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems), 5+ years in grid integration, and experience with PSS/E, ETAP or PowerFactory. DERs and microgrids experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems specialization.
• At least 5 years in power system engineering focusing on grid integration.
• Experience with PSS/E, ETAP or PowerFactory.
• Knowledge of DERs, energy storage and microgrids is a plus.
• Excellent communication for remote collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical studies, including interconnection studies, power flow, and stability analysis for renewable integrations.
• Develop and refine technical requirements and standards for grid interconnection.
• Collaborate with utility engineers, project developers, and regulators to facilitate approvals.
• Review and approve interconnection applications and system designs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve grid integration issues for distributed energy resources.
• Stay updated on grid technologies and smart grid practices.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Proficiency with power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, PowerFactory).
• Strong understanding of utility interconnection processes, grid codes, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with distributed energy resources (DERs), energy storage, and microgrids is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills suitable for remote collaboration.
