The incumbent responsibilities include ensuring that all the respective electrical engineering tasks and targets are achieved, in cooperation with other engineers and the Head of Department. These shall mainly be responsibilities associated with ECSA work Stages, and others as detailed below.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Business Development and Support
- Attend tender briefings, prepare tender documentation, write method statements, assist with pricing calculations, and contribute to tender processes as required. Ensure compliance with company procedures in project registration and risk analysis.
- Ensure quality assurance by maintaining an auditable trail of actions throughout the project lifecycle, in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures.
- Adhere to Health and Safety requirements in the workplace and on construction sites.
- Ensure services meet statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Support marketing and business development efforts to onboard new clients and projects.
Project Management and Delivery
- Lead and participate in the design and technical aspects of projects to ensure timely, within-budget, and to-specification delivery.
- Develop conceptual, detailed designs, and produce contract documentation, specifications, and drawings.
- Sign off on engineering designs following ECSA guidelines.
- Manage small to medium-sized projects effectively.
- Design electrical and electronic building services, including power, lighting, fire detection, access control, CCTV, nurse call, PA, emergency services, telecoms, and fibre networks. Experience with renewable energy designs such as solar PV and BESS is advantageous.
- Follow project start-up procedures, scope, and change management processes.
- Provide technical support, supervision, and participate in peer reviews.
- Prepare proposals, estimates, budgets, schedules, and evaluate alternative designs.
- Develop detailed designs, manage drawings, and tender documentation.
- Facilitate tender processes, assist with procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate project design, procurement, construction, and testing activities.
- Implement initiatives to improve project cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
- Participate in meetings, prepare progress reports, and present solutions to clients.
- Handle administrative tasks as required.
Training and Leadership
- Participate in professional development to maintain registration.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and technologists.
Relations and Stakeholder Management
- Maintain good relations with stakeholders.
- Liaise with clients to meet requirements.
- Manage project teams to control risks and achieve targets.
- Assist in developing technical standards and templates.
Education, Qualifications
- B.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional registration preferred or eligible for registration (Pr. Eng) with ECSA within one year.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Minimum ten years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of South African standards (SANS 10142 and 10400-XA).
- Ability to work independently and manage all project stages.
- Proficiency in computer software such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Projects, Helioscope, DIALux, Relux, etc.
- Experience in design, project management, and client interaction.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and team management skills.
