Job summary

Shift Pursuit is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer for building services projects in Durban. You will take professional responsibility for engineering designs and manage projects from concept to commissioning.

You will lead electrical design, prepare deliverables and tender documentation, and mentor junior engineers while liaising with clients and stakeholders to ensure on-time delivery and compliance with ECSA standards.

Qualifications

• B.Eng in Electrical Engineering is required.
• PrEng registration with ECSA is preferred, or eligibility within 1 year of appointment.
• 10+ years of relevant post-degree experience.
• Strong experience in electrical building services and across ECSA project stages.
• Knowledge of SANS 10142 and SANS 10400-XA.
• Fluent in English with strong communication skills.

Job description

Introduction:

Our client is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their team. This position is suited to an experienced electrical professional with strong building services design experience, the ability to take professional responsibility for engineering designs, and experience managing projects from conceptualisation and detailed design through to tender, construction and commissioning.

Key Performance Areas:

• Lead and participate in electrical design and technical delivery of projects.
• Conceptualise and develop electrical designs through to detailed design.
• Prepare engineering deliverables, drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
• Take professional responsibility and sign off engineering designs in accordance with ECSA requirements.
• Manage small to medium-sized projects and ensure delivery within programme, budget and specification.
• Prepare project proposals, estimates, budgets and schedules.
• Develop and evaluate alternative concept designs.
• Coordinate electrical designs with internal and external disciplines.
• Prepare and manage tender documentation.
• Assist with tender adjudication, procurement and contractor appointment.
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
• Conduct contract administration, testing, inspections and commissioning.
• Present design solutions to clients for approval.
• Provide technical guidance and support to discipline and project teams.
• Participate in peer reviews and provide technical input.
• Liaise proactively with clients and other stakeholders.
• Assist with business development, tenders and marketing initiatives.
• Mentor, coach and provide technical leadership to candidate engineers and technologists.

Requirements:

• B.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a PrEng is preferred, or eligibility to obtain PrEng registration within one year of appointment.
• 10+ years’ relevant experience post‑degree qualification.
• Strong experience within electrical building services.
• Experience working across ECSA project stages.
• Proven ability to execute electrical designs and manage small to medium‑sized projects.
• Knowledge of South African working conditions and relevant standards, including SANS 10142 and SANS 10400-XA.
• Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
