Pele Green Energy is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and commissioning of electrical substations.
This role requires a solid understanding of power systems, protection and control systems, and substation equipment, as well as the ability to work on multidisciplinary projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Design and engineer substation layouts and single-line diagrams (SLDs) for high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) substations
- Develop and review electrical drawings, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications
- Perform calculations for short circuit analysis, load flow, grounding, lightning protection, and relay settings
- Select appropriate substation equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, and relays
- Oversee or participate in the commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of substation equipment and systems
- Collaborate with project managers, civil and structural engineers, and construction teams to ensure integrated and timely project delivery
- Ensure designs and installations meet applicable codes, standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, ANSI), and utility / client requirements
- Support procurement by preparing technical specifications and reviewing vendor submittals
- Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers and drafters
- Ensure all documentation, reports, and drawings are complete, accurate, and up to date
- Experience with SCADA systems, communication protocols (e.g., DNP3, IEC)
- Knowledge of renewable energy integration and battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Maintain current knowledge of legislation applicable to each project
- Support the maintenance of the ISO Quality Management System
- Make regular updates to in-house templates or engineering documents
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- BTech, B.Eng or BSc (Eng) in Electrical, or Electronic Engineering
- 3-5 years' experience in engineering design or power systems
- Proficiency with electrical design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP
- Experience with relevant simulation and design software packages (PV Sol, PV Syst, WaSP, MatLab) is beneficial
- Strong knowledge of substation equipment, protection schemes, and utility standards
- Proficient in MS Word, MS Projects, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel
- Valid Driver's License and own car
- Detail-oriented, thorough, and a self-starter
- Ability to work under pressure
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
