Job description

The incumbent responsibilities include ensuring that all the respective electrical engineering tasks and targets are achieved, in cooperation with other engineers and the Head of Department. These shall mainly be responsibilities associated with ECSA work Stages, and others as detailed below.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Business Development and Support
  • Attend tender briefings, prepare tender documentation, write method statements, assist with pricing calculations, and contribute to tender processes as and when required. a. Comply with Company procedures and processes in terms of project registration and risk analysis.
  • Comply with Quality procedures by ensuring auditable trail of actions during full life cycle of project delivery process all in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures.
  • Comply with and embrace Health and Safety requirements in the workplace as well as on construction sites.
  • Ensure that required services meet applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the marketing and business development of the Electrical Department to onboard new clients/projects.
Internal Project Management, Health and Safety, Administration and Quality Management Procedures
  • Comply with Company procedures and processes in terms of project registration and risk analysis.
  • Comply with Quality procedures by ensuring an auditable trail of actions during the full lifecycle of project delivery, in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures.
  • Comply with and embrace Health and Safety requirements in the workplace and on construction sites.
  • Ensure that services meet statutory and regulatory requirements.
Project Delivery and Management
  • Lead, participate, and contribute to the design and technical aspects of projects to ensure timely, within-budget, and to-specification delivery.
  • Develop conceptual, detailed designs, and produce contract documentation, specifications, and drawings.
  • Sign-off on engineering designs following ECSA guidelines.
  • Manage small to medium projects effectively.
  • Design electrical and electronic building services, including power, lighting, fire detection, access control, CCTV, nurse call, PA, emergency services, telecoms, fibre networks, and solar PV/BESS systems.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy designs, including solar PV and BESS, is advantageous.
  • Follow project start-up processes, ensure clear project scoping, and manage changes through proper change management processes.
  • Provide technical support, supervision, and advice; participate in peer reviews.
  • Prepare proposals, estimates, budgets, schedules, and evaluate alternative designs.
  • Develop detailed designs, manage drawings, tender documentation, and facilitate tender and adjudication processes.
  • Support procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage project phases from design to construction.
  • Conduct contract administration, testing, commissioning, and inspections.
  • Develop initiatives for cost-effective project execution.
  • Participate in meetings, prepare progress reports, and ensure quality checks.
  • Present design solutions to clients for approval.
  • Handle routine administrative tasks as needed.
Training and Mentoring
  • Engage in continuous professional development to maintain registration.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to candidate engineers/technologists.
Leadership and Relations
  • Maintain good stakeholder relationships.
  • Liaise proactively with clients to meet requirements.
  • Manage project teams to control risks and meet targets.
  • Assist in developing technical standards, templates, and technologies.
Education, Language & Qualifications
  • B.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Professional registration preferred or eligible for Pr. Eng with ECSA within one year.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • At least ten years of relevant experience post-degree.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, REVIT, MS Projects is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to execute designs and manage projects.
  • Strong computer skills, especially MS Office suite.
  • Good financial, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English; able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of South African standards (SANS 10142, 10400-XA).
  • Experience with Autodesk software, Helioscope, ReticMaster, DIALux, Relux beneficial.
  • Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and client focus.
