Job description

AltGen has been retained to build the execution team for a large BESS project in the N.Cape. As such, we wish to engage with experienced Electrical Engineers (HV) for a site-based role as Engineering Manager responsible for the oversight of the design and equipment of the Battery Storage, transmission line, and switching station elements of the project.

This role sits with the owner and is responsible for signing off on all designs, coordinating all engineering consultants and owner's engineers, FATs, and commissioning of the entire system. The role also ensures all warranties are in place before Take Over and involves coordination with the O&M team. Experience at the Owner's level or previously as an Owners' Engineer or LTA is crucial, as this role assists with project drawdowns from a technical perspective. Grid interface and commissioning of previous grid-tied systems are essential.

This project holds many 'first-of-its-kind' features, providing a unique experience that the successful incumbent will carry with them after the 24-month fixed-term contract.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum BSc Electrical Engineering
2. Significant experience in the construction of HV power interface, with evidence of strong grid stakeholder and interface management
3. Experience working according to project finance considerations, with a broad understanding of lenders and project finance constraints
4. Experience managing EPC contractors, with a focus on influencing rather than instructing
5. Deep understanding of EPC/FIDIC contracting agreements and associated risks
6. Ability to communicate in Afrikaans
