Position Summary and Objective - To support the Environment, Safety, and Health (ESH) department in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, promoting a safe and sustainable workplace, and assisting in the implementation of ESH programs. The in-service trainee will gain hands-on experience in safety inspections, risk assessments, incident reporting, and environmental management within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

Minimum Requirements - Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

Primary Responsibilities -

  • Participate in routine workplace safety inspections and ESH audits under supervision.
  • Support identification and reporting of unsafe acts, conditions, and near-misses.
  • Support Risk Assessments
  • Help collect data for risk assessments (e.g., Job Safety Analysis, HIRA).
  • Assist in documenting control measures and following up on corrective actions.
  • Incident Reporting and Investigation
  • Assist in documenting incidents, first-aid cases, and near-misses.
  • Participate in basic root cause analysis exercises and prepare preliminary reports.
  • Monitoring of ESH Compliance
  • Support tracking of legal and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ensure ESH checklists, safety permits, and logs are up to date.
  • Training and Awareness Support
  • Assist in organizing ESH awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
  • Help prepare training materials and maintain training attendance records.
  • Maintain ESH documentation and assist in updating ESH databases and registers.
  • Support the preparation of monthly ESH performance reports and dashboards.
  • Participation in Waste Management Activities
  • Assist in monitoring waste segregation, labelling, and disposal practices.
  • Support efforts for chemical and biohazardous waste compliance.
  • PPE Monitoring and Usage Compliance
  • Help ensure proper use, availability, and condition of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Report any non-compliance or PPE-related issues to supervisors.
  • Emergency Preparedness Assistance
  • Participate in fire drills, mock evacuations, and emergency response planning.
  • Support the maintenance of emergency equipment like fire extinguishers and spill kits.
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentorship programs.
  • Stay updated with current ESH trends, policies, and regulatory updates relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.
