This classification involves conducting engineering construction inspections related to paving, drainage, water, sanitary sewer, and other civil engineering projects for the City.
An employee in this position reviews construction documents, evaluates materials lists, meets with contractors, developers, and government agencies; inspects various sites, roadways, and utility improvements; and ensures compliance with City standards and applicable regulations.
The role also includes responding to inquiries, investigating complaints, and updating related records.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Participates in preconstruction meetings with contractors, engineers, and developers.
- Reviews materials lists and shop drawings for compliance with approved plans.
- Inspects construction in the public right-of-way and private development sites, including curbing, paving, and sidewalks.
- Inspects grading and paving for compliance with permits and approved plans.
- Checks sub-base, sub-grade, rock base, and surface conditions.
- Confers with builders to ensure standards are followed.
- Prepares written reports on project progress.
- Inspects utility installations to ensure compliance with permits and standards.
- Inspects drainage work for subdivisions on private and public roads.
- Inspects sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, and ADA compliance.
- Reviews complaints and requests, investigates issues, and reports findings.
- Acts as construction inspector for parks projects and liaises with subcontractors.
- Enters inspection data into the City's computer system.
- Reviews as-built drawings and construction costs against field data.
- Provides excellent customer service with professionalism and respect.
- Performs related duties as required.
