Position Overview :
The Tax Administrator will support the tax department in managing the company's tax compliance and reporting functions, ensuring all South African tax obligations are met accurately and on time.
Responsibilities include:
- Processing tax documentation, submitting tax returns, and liaising with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to resolve queries.
- The role is crucial for ensuring compliance with local tax laws.
Minimum Requirements :
Desired Qualifications and Experience :
- National Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or related fields.
- Taxation certification (e.g., from SAIT) is advantageous.
- 2-3 years of experience in tax administration or compliance roles.
- Solid understanding of South African tax laws including VAT, PAYE, Income Tax, SDL, and UIF.
- Attention to detail and effective multitasking skills.
- Experience with SARS submissions, eFiling, and responding to SARS queries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and tax software; familiarity with SARS eFiling is essential.
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
Tax Compliance and Reporting :
- Registering all relevant tax types with SARS.
- Applying for penalty remissions and deregistrations as needed.
- Preparing and submitting RP6, ITR12, and ITR14 tax returns.
- Calculating income tax for individuals and companies, reconciling assessments.
- Obtaining tax clearance certificates (Good Standing & AIT).
- Preparing income and expense schedules, uploading documentation for audits.
- Managing objections and updating registered details.
Document Management :
- Maintain the tax department's eFiling system, ensuring proper filing and accessibility.
- Track deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
- Keep accurate records of all tax correspondence, filings, and payments.
- Maintain updated client lists and records across platforms.
Tax Planning Support :
- Assist in preparing documentation for tax planning and strategies.
- Support research into new or changing tax laws and regulations.
Internal Reporting and Communication :
- Provide updates to the Tax Manager on filings and issues.
- Support audits with relevant documentation and responses.
- Communicate tax information effectively to finance and payroll teams.
SARS Communication :
- Correspond with SARS regarding queries or disputes.
- Monitor SARS correspondence and act accordingly.
- Assist with SARS dispute management and client queries.
- Arrange meetings with SARS when necessary.
Tax Research and Updates :
- Stay updated on changes in South African tax law and communicate these to stakeholders.
- Research legislative changes, court rulings, and SARS policies to ensure compliance.
