This position reports to: DC General Manager

Purpose of this position:

To manage the operations of the Distribution Centre on time, accordingto customer requirements, and within safety and quality regulations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and execute functional operational plans thatsupport business strategy and enable the distributioncenter to meet budgets, goals, targets, and due dates
  • Implement and maintain all required systems,processes, and procedures within the distribution center
  • Develop standard operating procedures for all areas andmonitor and enforce compliance
  • Maximise the efficiency and productivity levels of theoperation, ensure compliance with agreed standards,continuously seek to optimize processes, and find valueopportunities for the division
  • Manage and report on Service Level Agreements(including overseeing management information reports ifrelevant)
  • Perform financial planning, budgeting, forecasting,reporting, and analysis of data for the distribution center
  • Build effective, value-adding, transparent relationshipswith all stakeholders (customers, suppliers, andemployees) through regular communication, reporting,and personal interaction
  • Evaluate technology and capital requirements asdetermined by the tactical plan of the division
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of teams within thedistribution center, scheduling employees whererequired, and ensuring optimal productivity
  • Produce operational reports for management asrequired
  • Ensure all employees are suitably qualified and trainedfor their positions
  • Ensure that distribution services meet quality standardsand customer requirements and that customersatisfaction levels meet agreed targets
  • Ensure that all outbound items leave the distributioncenter within agreed time frames and that all inbounditems are packed away correctly and within agreed timeframes
  • Ensure that all tender-order lead times are adhered to
  • Ensure that deliveries are on time as per agreed targets,improving processes where needed, and liaising withservice providers to optimize processes
  • Manage and report on the operational budget, managingcosts to ensure that costs are in line with budget (egpackaging costs, transport costs)
  • Ensure that stock discrepancies are minimized by overseeing and putting in place effective Stock Controlprocesses
  • Effective management of projects within the distributioncenter by meeting requirements of projects andadhering to deadlines
  • Identify potential risks that might affect the successfuloperation of the distribution centre, and put strategiesand processes in place to mitigate these risks
  • Continuously assess processes and systems, and lookfor innovative ways to improve or introduce newprocesses, systems, and methods that will assist thedistribution center in operating more effectively
  • Stay abreast of, evaluate, and implement appropriatemodern world-class thinking in terms of distribution toensure efficient, effective, and world-class operations

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree qualification in logistics/supply
  • chain management
  • 5-8 years of experience in logistics/distribution.
  • Experience in managing teams
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Health and Safety
  • legislation, and labor legislation.
  • Knowledge of distribution processes/operations
  • Proficient in relevant computer packages and applications
