The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for direct and / or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

The role includes assessment and care, assisting during operations, maintaining sterility, and supporting the surgical team.

Responsibilities

Practice patient care within Scope of Practice and assume responsibility for activities.

Prepare the theatre, replenish stock, and manage instruments for procedures.

Contribute to holistic patient care.

Maintain aseptic techniques and control costs by proper use of supplies.

Handle equipment, instruments, stock, and medication safely.

Assist with patient positioning and transfer to prevent risks.

Communicate effectively with patients about their care.

Assist anesthetist during induction of anesthesia.

Follow hospital standards for procedures.

Develop and communicate nursing care plans.

Report any health status changes to healthcare practitioners.

Maintain accurate documentation and records.

Manage stock and ensure a safe, medico-legally compliant environment.

Adhere to safety regulations and promote professional conduct.

Engage in ongoing personal and professional development.

Maintain a positive professional image and good working relationships.

Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.

Enrolled Nurse qualification and registration with SANC.

At least 5 years of experience as an enrolled nurse assistant.

Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, patient safety, and infection control.
