Introduction

Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Scientist within the Mineralogy Division.

The incumbent will be responsible for acquiring (through sample measurement and observation), interpreting, and reporting mineralogical data for research or commercial purposes, in accordance with predetermined time and cost schedules, and adhering to Mineralogy's quality standards.

The role also involves actively seeking new income opportunities and avenues for intellectual capital development.

Key Performance Indicators
  1. Assist the Head/Executive Manager in maintaining and expanding project work from the mining/metallurgical industry and related funding sources, aligning with the Division's business plans, by providing expertise and interacting with clients/stakeholders.
  2. Identify client/stakeholder needs and propose suitable projects to generate income for the Division.
  3. Execute projects within agreed timelines, control costs, and deliver valid, professional conclusions.
  4. Lead and carry out projects requiring advanced interaction with clients/stakeholders.
  5. Comply with internal administrative requirements, including labour and instrument time tracking, business governance, professional reporting, and project management.
  6. Ensure SHEQ procedures are followed, and project work is conducted efficiently, producing valid results.
  7. Maintain a proven record of research, publications, and documentation related to mining industry fields.
  8. Produce professional reports and publications at an advanced level.
Knowledge and Experience

Minimum of 5 years experience operating mineralogical equipment such as X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, or optical microscopy, including data processing and interpretation. Preference for candidates experienced with automated scanning electron microscopy (MLA, QEMSCAN, TIMA). Familiarity with emerging mineralogy techniques is advantageous. The candidate must be highly organized, detail-oriented, with excellent communication skills, capable of multi-tasking, and able to draft proposals aligning with client objectives. Project management skills and client relationship management are essential.

Qualifications
