About (Health Intelligence – Operations Intelligence)

The position available is in the Discovery Health Operations Intelligence unit.

We apply predictive analytics, big data, and analytic skills to provide unique data-driven answers to exciting problems in servicing, operations, and other areas of the business.

The team has access to structured and unstructured data and makes use of the latest international innovative big data architecture.

Key Purpose

Lead the technical development, testing, and implementation of advanced Large Language Model (LLM) based projects and related technologies to deliver end-to-end data science and AI products within the organization.

Work closely with cross-functional teams and business partners to design, build, and deploy scalable solutions that will directly impact staff and customers.

Create opportunities that delight our customers by leveraging Discovery's vast clinical, demographic, and operational data.

Responsibilities

1. Lead the design, development, and deployment of LLM and generative AI-based solutions to address large-scale and complex problems.
2. Collaborate with product owners, project managers, and stakeholders to identify and prioritize business problems solvable with LLMs.
3. Research and apply the latest in LLMs and Generative AI to real-world applications.
4. Research speech-to-text and audio-based language models, integrating with LLM pipelines.
5. Conduct experimental research to optimize design and development decisions, balancing accuracy, scalability, efficiency, safety, and cost.
6. Translate strategic directions into technical product definitions and roadmaps.
7. Engage in discussions and policy design for ethical AI use, ensuring compliance with ethical standards.
8. Contribute to a culture of innovation through prototyping and developing novel methodologies.
9. Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
10. Research and analyze large datasets to find insights for operational efficiency and member engagement.
11. Present data and model findings to provide actionable insights.
12. Monitor model performance and refine as necessary.

Skills and Attributes

Expertise in R, Python, Scala; strong SQL skills; experience with Big Data and distributed systems; knowledge of machine learning algorithms; proficiency with version control; problem-solving skills; effective communicator; team player with high attention to detail; passionate about data exploration and analytics; self-starter and continuous learner.

Education and Experience

Honours or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics with relevant experience; 3-5 years in data science; experience with cloud platforms, tools like Whisper, DeepSpeech, OpenAI, HuggingFace, TensorFlow, MLops practices, and models like GPTs, LLaMa, Gemini.

Additional Information

Experience with sourcing data from structured and unstructured sources, familiarity with cloud platforms, and a proven record of delivering Data Science or AI projects are advantageous.
