Job description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for delivering comprehensive legal and technical support across regulatory functions, ensuring all legal risks are mitigated and managed. The role requires working collaboratively with various departments to draft, vet, and review legislation, contracts, and regulations. You will provide legal opinions, coordinate regulatory approval processes, and support litigation efforts where necessary. The role is pivotal in maintaining regulatory compliance and legislative integrity, with a strong emphasis on stakeholder engagement, legal research, and drafting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, vet, and review regulations and technical standards in alignment with legislative frameworks.
  • Facilitate and monitor the regulation approval process through stakeholder consultation and statutory requirements.
  • Provide legal support in the form of drafting legal opinions, submissions, monthly reports, and various legal documents.
  • Serve as secretary to the Civil Aviation Regulations Committee (CARCom) and manage all related regulatory documentation.
  • Lead legal negotiations, support litigation processes, and represent the organisation in tribunal appeals.
  • Draft and review commercial contracts, service-level agreements, international agreements, and memoranda of understanding.
  • Ensure legal compliance across departments, providing verbal and written legal advice as needed.
  • Coordinate external legal counsel activities and ensure alignment with internal legal strategies.

  • BProc or LLB degree with admission as an attorney or advocate (with completed pupillage).
  • Legislative Drafting Certificate (ideal).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a practicing attorney / advocate.
  • At least 3 years of experience in legislative drafting.
  • Proficiency in legal research, regulatory interpretation, policy development, and contract law.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in digital tools and legal systems.
