Job description

Overview

The incumbent will be responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and leadership of the plant's maintenance function. This includes oversight of approximately 100 artisans, including foremen, with accountability for the uptime, reliability, and compliance of all manufacturing equipment and facilities.



Qualifications & Experience

Non-Negotiables:


  • GCC - Factories (completed) and legally appointed GMR2.1
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years' experience in a heavy manufacturing/industrial environment
  • Boiler experience with associated legal knowledge/mandatories



Additional Requirements:


  • In-depth understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems
  • Strong leadership and people management experience
  • Working knowledge of steam, pneumatics, and hydraulics
  • Proven ability to read technical drawings and implement engineering principles
  • Proficiency in maintenance management systems and tools (e.g., OEE, job cards)
  • Exposure to engineering software (e.g., CAD, MATLAB)
  • Strong IR knowledge and ability to manage large teams



Key Responsibilities



a) Maintenance Strategy and Execution


  • Develop and implement a robust maintenance strategy (planned, preventative, and reactive) tailored to plant needs.
  • Minimise downtime through effective troubleshooting and rapid response protocols.
  • Design and execute preventative maintenance schedules for all plant assets.
  • Manage the installation, commissioning, and repair of equipment.
  • Align with group engineering succession plans; uphold GCC and GMR2 requirements.
  • Plan and execute production shutdowns and key plant projects.



b) Team Leadership and Management


  • Lead and supervise a large maintenance team (including foremen).
  • Allocate tasks and ensure progress aligns with maintenance objectives.
  • Mentor, develop, and assess team members to build technical capability and performance.



c) Budgeting and Resource Management


  • Oversee the maintenance department's budget and expenditure.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors for parts, services, and consumables.
  • Conduct cost recovery and project costing analysis.
  • Appoint subcontractors and manage project teams.



d) Performance Monitoring and Reporting


  • Produce regular reports on maintenance operations and equipment performance.
  • Manage the delivery of utilities including electricity, steam, and water.
  • Conduct job card frequency analysis to improve scheduling.
  • Monitor asset performance and implement OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) metrics.



e) Compliance and Safety


  • Conduct and document risk assessments; implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure all activities comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards.
  • Lead maintenance-related incident investigations.
  • Maintain compliance records for audits and inspections.



f) Continuous Improvement


  • Identify and adopt new technologies/processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Work cross-functionally with production and other departments.
  • Support integration of maintenance requirements into capital projects.
