Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Catering Officer is responsible for ordering and receiving all deliveries of stock according to set guidelines, checking that goods are not damaged, expired, and are of acceptable quality and quantity.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Records Management
  • Keep all invoices filed safely.
  • Keep a record of all wastage.
  • Keep all stock requisitions.
  • Inventory Management
    • Order stock according to departmental needs.
    • Receive stock, check for expiry dates and damages.
    • Maintain stock par levels.
    • Ensure stock rotation using the "First in, First out" (FIFO) principle.
    • Isolate rejected stock until disposal.
    • Weigh and issue stock daily as required.
    • Label and identify all stock correctly.
    • Conduct monthly stock takes.
    • Keep stores locked when not in use.

    Key Functional/Technical Competencies

    • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety procedures.
    • Knowledge of food preparation in an industrial kitchen.
    • Knowledge of handling and cleaning of food service equipment.
    • Knowledge of proper stock storage.
    • Ability to lift heavy items.
    • Computer literacy, including MS Office and email.

    Key Behavioural Competencies

    • Good time management and ability to work under pressure.
    • Willingness to work irregular hours.
    • Strong organizing and planning skills.
    • Client service orientation and effective communication.
    • Ability to work as part of a team.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 (NQF level 4).
    • At least two (2) years’ experience working with stock.

    Added Advantages & Preferences

    • Certificate/Diploma in Food & Beverage Management, Catering Management, Business Administration, or related fields.
