Purpose of the Role
- The Junior Buyer provides support to the Category Buyer in maintaining a sustainable base of strategic suppliers, ensuring Econofoods' participation in the Grocery category.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the category buyer in supplier selection, management, communication, and relationship management within the GROCERIES CATEGORY.
- Assist in managing and developing a national supply base of suppliers meeting specified criteria.
- Support GP management in line with budgets.
- Manage the Category within the Stock Days Governance Manual.
- Maintain the Private Label Brand Identity nationally, in collaboration with the Marketing department, ensuring compliance and execution.
- Ensure merchandising flows are executed and aligned with the Category buyer’s guidance.
- Maintain category Data Integrity according to the hierarchy.
Operational Performance Areas
- Conduct weekly business health checks and report to the category buyer.
- Assist with supplier management reports and quarterly reviews with major suppliers.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding rejections and complaints.
- Manage supply base using DIFOT reports and present findings to the category buyer.
- Ensure product quality, availability, and inbound service levels.
- Manage product availability during promotional periods.
- Achieve growth targets and GP% targets.
- Drive category flows and planogram implementation in stores.
- Participate in weekly meetings with Planning and Buying Teams.
- Assist in stock planning during promotional and peak periods.
- Support ordering patterns, co-loading, warehousing, and buying optimization alongside Supply Chain.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric certificate or equivalent.
- Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Economics, or related field (advantageous).
- At least 2 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or related fields.
- Experience in store operations, category knowledge, buying, or category management is a plus.
- Problem-solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
