Job Description
The Protection Services Superintendent Specialized Product investigations Unit (PIU) role is a specialized position that supports the Protection Services Senior Superintendent Specialized PIU in managing complex or high profile investigations and information gathering in the interest of Anglo American Platinum through focused surveillance strategies. The role reports to the Protection Services Senior Superintend Specialized PIU and is expected to apply best practices in investigative and information gathering techniques in order to identify and apprehend suspects, recover losses and advise on the minimization breaches of security.
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Implementing investigation technologies and equipment approaches that would be effective for the Unit
- Identify best practices applicable to the role through benchmarking other platinum procedures
- Support investigations within the Unit through evidence gathering by means of surveillance systems.
- Identifying investigations requiring expert advisors or dedicated teams
- Mentor effective risk management approaches relating to Protection services
- Input of ideas for protection services management decisions
- Identify opportunities to improve protection services within the Unit
- Support the development and acceptance of business plans, strategies and SLA’s for protection services in the Unit
- Testify in disciplinary hearings, CCMA and criminal court
- Effective two way open communication with employees in team
- Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with the roles stakeholders
- Supports employees to work in a safe, productive and legal environment
- Support and participate in the training and development requirements of employees
- Ensure that employees have clear work allocations, plans and instructions
- Communicate effectively with Protection Services Superintendent
- Support the induction of new employees
- Encourage co-operation and teamwork as well as cooperation between team and clients
- Relation with general public
- Perform CIA duties as required
This role is at a D1 Level reporting to the PS Senior Superintendent
Qualifications
- Grade 12
- NQF level 5 Qualification in investigations/policing/security law
- Registered with PSIRA Grade A.
- Applicable firearm competency
- Valid drivers license code C1.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Security or equivalent environment of which 3 years should be in Investigation/ Information Gathering / Surveillance
Knowledge And Skills
- Competent in functional systems used in the Product investigations Unit (PIU)
- Computer literacy
- Communications in English
- Business reports writing skills
- Statement taking and report writing
- Proficient in compiling evidence bundles and presenting at internal and external enquiries.
- Coaching and mentoring skills
- Presentation and handling of evidence in court / disciplinary hearing
- Emergency preparedness and response to various situations
- Knowledge in Investigation / Information gathering
- Knowledge of security related legislation/policies/procedures/standards and VPSHR
- Understanding and recognition of criminal incident behaviour and suspect profiling
Pre-Requisite
- Psychometric Assessment for firearms
- Firearm Competency
- No criminal record
- Polygraph test
- Must be able to work overtime and if required, standby.
