CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills by undergraduate pharmacy students for them to function effectively within the field of Pharmacy.

To conduct and lead research, facilitate the acquisition of research knowledge and skills amongst undergraduate and postgraduate students.

To contribute to community engagement and to be involved in the core functions of the University.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Facilitating learning, teaching and work integrated learning in Pharmacy, particularly, Clinical Pharmacy.
  • Development of theoretical and practical learning and material in Clinical Pharmacy.
  • Conducting, supervising and publishing research in Clinical Pharmacy.
  • Involvement in short learning programs in the department.
  • Involvement in community engagement programs.
  • Perform other administrative duties as designated by the Head of the Discipline/Department.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • An in-depth knowledge of the theory and practice of Clinical Pharmacy and associated disciplines.
  • Teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students and pharmacy professionals undergoing supplementary training.
  • Conduct Clinical Pharmacy research and publish in relevant accredited peer-reviewed journals.
  • Application for and administration of research grants.
  • Pharmacy profession/stakeholder liaison and networking.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Knowledge and implementation of, or an ability for, facilitation using blended learning methods.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy (preferably Clinical Pharmacy, however, Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacology will be considered).
  • At least two years (24 continuous months) relevant lecturing and/or related working experience in a clinical environment.
  • Professional registration as a practicing Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council is mandatory.
ADDED ADVANTAGES
  • Experience in programme and module development.
  • Current and/or previous involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate research supervision.
