The Department of Health is seeking a Medical Practitioner with a focus on psychiatry. Responsibilities include clinical assessments, managing emergencies, and participating in academic programs. Applicants must have HPCSA registration and a Diploma in Mental Health. Preference will be given to South African citizens.
Package : R 1.00 per annum all-inclusive salary package
Requirements : An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
An interest in psychiatry and experience in the field, along with a Diploma in Mental Health, will be an added advantage.
Duties : The incumbent will be responsible for clinical assessment, history taking, mental status examination, and physical examination of psychiatric patients. They will also formulate, develop, and execute evidence-based and compassionate patient care plans.
Assess and manage medical and psychiatric emergencies.
Provide counselling and education to patients and families.
Ensure proper and safe record-keeping, including all laboratory results.
Prepare referral letters and discharge summaries for all patients.
Participate in ward/departmental administrative duties.
Teaching students.
Work within a multidisciplinary team and report any conflicts of interest and corruption.
Participate in outreach, academic, and research programs at any of the Gauteng Health facilities affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Notes : These positions will be joint appointments between the Gauteng Department of Health and academic institutions such as the University of Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, and Sefako Makgatho University.
