Qualifications

Job Description

Our iKTribe is on the hunt for a Payroll Officer who takes pride in precision and loves keeping things running smoothly.

So, what will you do?

You will ensure the accurate and efficient management of iKhokha’s monthly Payroll.

In addition to the above, you will:
  1. Review HR-related documentation to ensure all relevant payroll documents are filed correctly, kept up to date, and submitted to 3rd parties as required (e.g., employee IDs, tax numbers, bank details, medical aid, group risk info).
  2. Assist Talent team in onboarding and offboarding employees from the company’s medical aid & group risk schemes.
  3. Ensure that monthly payroll and ad hoc payroll runs are processed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with SA tax legislation.
  4. Review monthly commission reports generated by sales and support team leaders and submit them to the Finance Operations Manager for final approval. Investigate any anomalies.
  5. Capture and review all business-related expenditure incurred by employees and appearing on payroll. Investigate any unauthorized spend.
  6. Assist with payroll forecasting for budget purposes.
  7. Generate reports related to time/effort expended by Product team members for internal asset capitalization.
  8. Review leave pay and bonus balances, investigating discrepancies (e.g., long-outstanding leave).
  9. Assist in the submission of PAYE and other tax returns under oversight of the Finance Operations Manager.
  10. Escalate payroll system errors to the Finance Operations Manager and Sage/3rd party consultancies as needed.
  11. Engage with Sage/3rd party consultancies to improve payroll systems and processes.
  12. Act as the primary relationship manager with the internal HR team to communicate payroll-related updates (e.g., new hires, terminations, salary changes).
  13. Respond to employee payroll queries, investigate discrepancies, generate dummy payslips, tax returns, etc.
  14. Manage relationships with 3rd party providers like Discovery, PSG, and Sage.
  15. Assist with implementing the company’s BEE strategy related to skills development, including generating the annual workplace skills development plan and employment equity reporting.
Qualifications
  • Business administration/finance degree or diploma.
  • Certification in Sage 300.
Deal Breakers
  • 5+ years’ experience in a payroll department.
  • Excellent knowledge of tax legislation affecting employees’ pay.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel.
  • Intermediate-to-expert experience with Sage 300 People payroll software.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset willing to work in a scale-up culture.
  • Ability to handle pressure and adapt to a dynamic environment.
  • Attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn about how company operations influence payroll (e.g., commissions, overtime).
Preferred Experience
  • Managing Discovery Medical Aid & Group Risk schemes.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Experience with MS Dynamics 365 Business Central or similar accounting software.
