Job Opportunity: Senior Underwriter at Emerald

Santam has been made aware of a malicious email instructing policyholders to claim refunds within 24-72 hours. This is a scam; Santam will only communicate through their broker or official channels.

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Underwriter in our Risk Acceptance Department at Emerald. What will make you successful in this role? The individual will be responsible for managing the underwriting of new and renewal corporate property insurance business and placing the necessary facultative reinsurance.

The suitable candidate will be expected to interact effectively with management, contribute to product and documentation improvements, and support marketing and business growth targets. Interaction with brokers, reinsurance brokers, and potential clients is essential.

The candidate must possess strong underwriting and negotiation skills, operate under demanding deadlines, and efficiently follow up with brokers, underwriters, managers, and other departments. The role aims to sustain and grow a profitable book of business while enhancing Emerald's brand and reputation.

Key Performance Areas:

Qualifications & Experience:

• 5-7 years of experience.
• IISA or equivalent professional qualification.
• Successful completion of RE Examination.
• Experience with African and South African brokers, reinsurers, and clients.
• Strong networking skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
