Job description

Unicorn Preparatory School is an independent, Christian, English-medium day school catering for boys and girls from Grade R to Grade 7. The school is a member of the Independent Schools Association of South Africa, ISASA and as such, is quality assured by both IQAA and UMALUSI. It is situated in the sub-tropical region of Tzaneen in Limpopo province.

Educational Support Teacher Grade 4-7

Unicorn Preparatory School invites applications for the abovementioned position which will be available from 01 January 2026.

Local and National applications for a Grade 4-7 Educational Support Teacher, are invited. The candidate must be willing to work with children aged 9-14 who require educational support. This includes offering support in all recognised learning barriers as well as reading and scribing to pupils who have been recognised as needing extra support for tests and exams.

The requirements for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Must have a teaching qualification (B Ed/PGCE),
  • Relevant professional qualification, e.g. B Ed (hons) Inclusive Education/Educational Psychology, Advanced Certificate in Remedial Education,
  • Knowledge of working with children with remedial and special or extra educational needs,
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to cater for learning difficulties,
  • A passion for teaching, strong classroom management skills and a basic understanding of the development of young children,
  • Must be computer literate,
  • Must be willing to engage in the school’s full programme, including all after hours and extra-curricular activities which would include extra lessons as part of this specialised position,
  • An unequivocal commitment to working as part of an accomplished team,
  • A commitment to on-going personal and professional development,
  • An awareness of the nature of the school and willingness to commit to its all-round ethos and extra-curricular activities,
  • Be willing to get a police clearance certificate and must have a clear criminal record
  • Must be SACE registered,
  • Must have an excellent command of the English language,
  • Have at least 2 years experience working in educational support or a remedial or special needs class.
