Job description

Field-based scientific experts in oncology are responsible for executing the Medical Affairs Plan(s) for pre-launch and/or newly launched products or indications. They shape clinical practice through scientific engagements, partnerships, and collaborations with both traditional (Specialist KOLs for MSLs & Primary Care Physicians) and non-traditional (policy and decision makers, PAGs, government, innovative solution providers) experts. They also collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive improved patient outcomes and ensure the safe and effective use of AstraZeneca medicines.

Typical Accountabilities

  1. Scientific Exchange: Engage in peer-to-peer dialogue with key customers, delivering appropriate clinical/scientific content through suitable channels to differentiate AstraZeneca products. Respond to unsolicited inquiries with balanced information supporting product safety and efficacy. Provide scientific support and presentations to stakeholders. Establish relationships with key customers and thought leaders for ongoing scientific dialogue. Organize and facilitate scientific events like MSL events, symposiums, advisory boards, and 'Meet the Professor' sessions, prioritizing based on relevance. Deliver tailored lectures aligned with communication strategies. Collaborate on study proposals and publications of interest.
  2. Customer Insights and Strategic Relationships: Identify, analyze, and report relevant knowledge about the external scientific environment. Provide actionable insights to internal teams to inform medical and product strategies. Partner with stakeholders to identify gaps in the patient journey, integrating these insights into strategic planning.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Degree in a scientific discipline (Master’s or Doctoral preferred)
  • 2-3 years of MSL experience
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory environment, or clinical research, with knowledge of therapeutic areas
  • Experience with basic research, drug discovery, and KOL interactions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management and presentation skills
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking abilities
