Role Purpose
The role of the Shift Occupational Health Nurse is to provide a comprehensive occupational healthcare program to clients, while adhering to all legal requirements.
Requirements
- A National Senior Certificate is essential.
- Degree / Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing is essential.
- Certificates in Audiology, Spirometry, and Vision Screening are essential.
- A valid Dispensing certificate is essential.
- Must be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) with an additional qualification in Occupational Health Nursing.
- Valid registration with the South African Society of Occupational Health Nurses (SASOHN).
- Previous experience in Occupational Health Nursing is highly advantageous.
- Good understanding of the Health & Safety Act and relevant legislation.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and insured vehicle is essential.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, alternating between night and day shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Implement and evaluate a risk-based medical surveillance program, including pre-employment, baseline, annual, transfer, and exit medical screening.
- Manage activities related to occupational safety, health, and waste.
- Handle Injury on Duty cases according to policies and procedures.
- Respond to medical emergencies within scope of practice.
- Assist workers in reintegration after prolonged absence.
- Recognize and manage chronic diseases to ensure productivity.
- Provide consultation, counseling, and referrals when needed.
- Advise management and employees on occupational health matters such as absenteeism management and sick leave.
- Ensure compliance with all occupational health legislation.
- Investigate client queries, escalate where necessary, and provide timely feedback.
- Monitor hazard exposure trends and implement preventative measures.
- Participate in audits.
- Oversee ordering, housekeeping, and maintenance of occupational health equipment.
- Perform administrative functions such as data entry and record management, maintaining confidentiality.
- Continuously update professional knowledge regarding industry and legislation.
