About the role

The Retail Channel Manager has the primary role of leading the modern trade sales department, overseeing activities of the junior and senior professionals and monitoring performance. The candidate will define and communicate the business KPIs and targets to sales personnel on a regular basis, analyses patterns in shopper and market behavior, and later defines data-driven action strategies to consistently perfect the business’s commercial performance. Strong business understanding & ability to create & execute profitable growth plans through systematic planning & organizing.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership/Supervisory Role:

  • The Retail Channel Manager oversees developing and executing weekly/monthly/annual and seasonal sales targets for the department, examining growth opportunities, enabling sales improvements, product mix development, and taking responsibility for the department’s performance against targets.
  • He/She also manages and executes the departmental calendar regarding trading priorities inclusive of launches, promotions and campaign activities for the purpose of maximizing sales opportunities.

Strategy:

  • The role also plays a major strategic role in the sales department. The Retail Channel Manager delivers an optimized market mix compared to the core target consumers and identifies the roadmap that will lead to the achievement of the department’s goals as well as the overall goals of the business.

Collaboration:

  • The position of Retail Channel Manager is also highly collaborative and, as such, teams up with the product development departments in creating product intelligence, for example, product/brand adjacencies, affinities, display rules, conducting trend analysis, and ensuring that these are aligned to support and drive sales and conversion.

Knowledge/Relationships/Opportunity:

  • The Retail Channel Manager is also tasked with managing key relationships on behalf of the business.
  • The candidate builds strong relationships with the external partners and regularly interacts with them by attending sales workshops, seminars and hosting events, hosting sales/promotional events for the business’s product, playing an active role in industry organizations and so forth.

  • Area Heads -Modern Trade, Key Account Manager (KAM), Supply chain - MT & region, Commercial team – Supply, PSO, Marketing & Finance, Managers of Retail Chains, Store managers/ Cluster Managers, Purchase Heads - Commercial Managers, DC team of customers

Who are we looking for?

Education:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate
  • The candidate would possess a Marketing, Business Management, Business Administration diploma or degree related to the commercial competencies of the role. The equivalent of this in working experience is also acceptable for the position.

Experience:

  • The Retail Channel Manager must have had at least 10 years of working experience in a sales position within a fast-paced and dynamic business environment, preferably working in the position of Senior Sales Executive.
  • The candidate must also have a proven and successful ability to lead a group of sales personnel towards growth in enhanced sales volumes and enhanced revenue generation, while displaying exceptional leadership skills and confidence.
  • A suitable candidate will also have experience evaluating product/market situations and analyzing raw data and information, transforming it into actionable sales strategies and approaches.
  • This candidate will drive the team’s sales capability and personal development to enhance competency and capability.

Skills:

  • The Retail Channel Manager will have certain interpersonal skills that will encourage openness and trust both internally and externally.
  • The candidate will be self-motivated, have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, be adaptable to business growth fluctuations, work comfortably and effortlessly in group settings, be a persuasive and charismatic individual, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and work well under the pressure of stringent deadlines.
