We are inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment as Assistant Operations Manager.
The ideal candidate will be the second in command of the Operations Division in Dredging Africa and will report to the Operations Manager of the Division.He / She will assist in all aspects of the Operations as support to the Operations Manager and will possess strong leadership skills and decision-making capabilities.The successful candidate will display authority, initiative and accountability and will have a drive to complete tasks successfully up to the end. This is a mid-level position in the Operations Department, requiring expertise in Mechanical and/or Civil Engineering.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
During Operations various new activities or projects need to be started up or executed. For activities of lesser complexity, the candidate will be required to ensure that he / she understands the project / activity brief and will be able to plan the activity in sufficient detail (timeframes, costing, resources etc.) to put a workable plan together for approval by the Operations Manager prior to execution of the activity.
For activities of lesser complexity, the candidate will have the necessary skills to organize and event / activity in accordance with the project plan and to guide execution of the plan to successful completion.
The candidate will obtain an understanding of the project production requirements and any other requirements that the project may entail. The candidate will be required to monitor progress in accordance with the Company standards and will prepare the necessary reports for submission to the Operations Manager on weekly or otherwise specified intervals as may be required.
The candidate will attend Project- and Site Meetings together with and under guidance of the Operations Manager. For internal Site Meetings, the candidate will have the necessary skills to chair these meetings, in person or online and will be able to represent the Company in a way that reflects the professional standard of the Company. The candidate will also be required to take notes / recordings and prepare the minutes of such meetings in line with Company standard and policies
The candidate will be included in the review and approval process of various activities in the Operations Division. This will include approval of limited amount Purchase Orders, review of timesheets, overtime approvals, fatigue hours, leave applications, pay weekends, budgets and payment certificates on project sites and will recommend to the Operations Manager appropriate action to be taken.
The candidate will be able to identify problems before they occur and will be able to take appropriate action to prevent problems from occurring. In the event that problems do occur (be it technical, human, safety or environmental related), the candidate will be able to make appropriate decisions within their limit of authority to resolve the problem. Every problem that gets escalated will be accompanied by a proposal for solution.
The candidate will have the necessary leadership skills to guide and mentor Site Managers and other site personnel in Company standard procedures and policy implementation, personnel management, and with specific focus on the Company ISO standards and our vision of being a Tier 1 Company.
The candidate will be required to visit the production sites on a regular basis where the equipment, processes, standards and documentation will be audited for compliance to Company standards. Audit Reports will be compiled and submitted to the Operations Manager for action.
The candidate will be required to do site visits, attend tender briefings and do site assessments in line with the guidelines provided by the Operations Manager.
