JOB PROFILE : FINANCIAL CONTROLLER (SOUTH AFRICA)

ABOUT KARRI

Karri is one of South Africa's most highly rated Apps. We are a rapidly growing tech business and an authorised Financial Services Provider, building innovative payments technology for the education sector. The Karri mobile app enables parents to pay for their children's school events and expenses quickly and easily. Karri streamlines cash collection for schools and teachers, improving safety and reducing costs. We are also launching new youth card products that facilitate cashless payments on and off campus, with parental oversight via the Karri App.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Finance team, led by the Finance Director, handles a broad scope of functions including Operations, Accounting & Audit, Financial Planning & Analysis, Regulatory Compliance, and Strategy. We seek an exceptional mid-level Financial Controller to join this team, which currently includes the Finance Manager, Administrative Assistant, and Finance Director.

This role is vital for maintaining the integrity of Karri's financial statements, streamlining accounting processes, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and assisting with audits and tax filings. Reporting to the Finance Manager with dotted line to the Finance Director, the ideal candidate will possess strong skills in finance operations, accounting, financial reporting, and analysis, complemented by a strong work ethic.

The candidate should be disciplined, reliable, detail-oriented, able to work under pressure, and adaptable to change. Responsibilities include:

  1. Financial Reporting and Analysis
  2. Supporting monthly, annual, and ad hoc financial reporting, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  3. Maintaining accurate Xero records, managing reconciliations, and supporting KPI report creation in PowerBI.
  4. Financial Operations
  5. Processing payments, managing invoices, and overseeing client money reconciliation.
  6. Managing cash flow, vendor relationships, and exception handling such as chargebacks and disputes.
  7. Accounting & Audit
  8. Overseeing accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions, ensuring IFRS compliance.
  9. Supporting audits and managing payroll processes.
  10. Budgeting & Forecasting
  11. Assisting in annual budgeting, updating forecasts, and resource allocation.
  12. Regulatory Compliance & General Management
  13. Supporting FICA and FSCA submissions, managing company assets, insurance, and fixed assets.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance, CIMA or CA (SA).
  • 3-5 years' relevant experience, with at least 2 years in Xero.
  • Experience in payments technology is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerBI, and financial planning tools.
  • Understanding of FICA and FAIS legislation is a plus.
