Job description

We are seeking a highly Senior Data Engineer / Tech Lead to join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting our data infrastructure.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining robust data pipelines that enable reliable, scalable data delivery across the organization.

The successful candidate will also conduct in-depth data analysis and produce clear, actionable reports to inform decision-making. Beyond core engineering tasks, this role will champion a data-driven culture, explore emerging technologies, and collaborate closely with stakeholders to ensure our data ecosystem continues to evolve and deliver value.

This role is a 3-year contract with the option to renew.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Develop & maintain data pipelines in support of downstream data delivery.
2. Perform analysis on organisational data & create reports to communicate the results.

Other potential duties include, but are not limited to:

• Communicate and advocate for a data-driven mindset in the larger organisational community, especially the IT department.
• Investigate and evaluate emerging technologies like robotic process automation (RPA), new AWS services, new data management approaches, machine learning advancements, etc.
• Liaise with individuals in the organisation in support of all the above duties.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Relevant IT degree, Diploma or certification
• 10+ years experience as a Data Engineer
• Proficiency in Python and SQL
• Good database design skills and understanding of data warehousing techniques
• Experience with data sources such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, Amazon S3
• Knowledge of Windows and Linux file systems, HTTP APIs, SFTP sites
• Ability to engineer cloud-first solutions in Amazon Web Services
• Interest in machine learning, advanced analytics, and data pipeline development for support thereof
• Understanding of software development processes, proficiency in Git, and experience with build & deployment pipelines in GitLab
• Ability to create reports and BI dashboards using technologies like Microsoft Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services, and Excel
