Job Description

Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer. Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures. Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests. Proposes approaches to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments. Identifies discrepancies in results. Provides guidance to entry-level engineers. Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision. Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

Technical Excellence

• Facilitates the coordination of small to mid-size project teams of discipline-led engineers.
• Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment as an experienced engineer.
• Provides specialised technical input into studies and design work, identifying discrepancies in results.
• Follows existing or develops design procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work.
• Participates in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables, including BIM spatial reviews.
• Has knowledge of construction costs relating to their specific areas of design.
• Gathers and correlates engineering data using established procedures.
• Prepares technical specifications.
• Performs work under the agreed-upon budget and schedule, liaising with authorities for approvals.
• Solves problems using knowledge, innovation, and modifications of standard procedures.
• Contributes to process improvements and delivers solutions where precedent may not exist.
• Performs technical quality reviews of design calculations, BIM models, and drawings.
• Maintains and develops high-level technical skills.
• Mentors junior staff.

Client Relationship Management

• Builds and maintains client relationships.
• Attends client meetings for technical support, information gathering, and project discussions.
• Participates in bid and proposal development, presenting solutions professionally and competently.
• Interfaces with PLCs, DCS systems, and Building Management Systems for design.
• Designs interface control systems, CCTV, access control, and IT networks.
• Prepares schedules, estimates, reports, and procurement documentation.
• Assesses client and project electrical engineering requirements.
• Develops concept designs and evaluates options based on project objectives.
• Performs cost estimation for ICT scope, including equipment and construction costs.
• Develops and checks equipment specifications, RFQs, tender documents, and bills of quantities.
• Manages project scheduling, progress, and quality control activities.
• Conducts vendor inspections and factory acceptance testing.
• Provides field engineering support during construction and commissioning.
• Prepares project handover and closeout documentation.
• Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
• Assists in setting up engineering documentation and methodology for ICT engineering.
• Develops client relations and extends the client base.

Qualifications

• BTech Degree from a reputable university
• 12+ Years' experience after qualification
• Registered as a Technologist with ECSA
