Job description

Job Title : CAD Artist / Technical Designer

Our retail client based in Durban North is looking for a CAD Artist / Technical Designer to join their team.

As a CAD Artist / Technical Designer, you will work closely with the design team to produce Tech Packs that translate creative briefs into apparel designs that meet the brand's standards for quality and fit.

Responsibilities
  1. Creating detailed Tech Packs including flat sketches, colourways, annotations, specifications, and bill of materials.
  2. Collaborating with the design and planning team, communicating with factories, and updating Tech Packs as needed.
  3. Staying updated with fashion trends, conducting market research, and analyzing consumer preferences.
  4. Developing creative concepts based on research and brand identity.
  5. Creating sketches and technical drawings of garments, accessories, or footwear.
  6. Selecting fabrics, trims, and materials considering quality, availability, and cost.
  7. Developing patterns and prototypes to test fit and aesthetic.
  8. Working with pattern makers, sample makers, and merchandisers to realize designs.
  9. Preparing presentations to communicate design ideas.
  10. Overseeing sample creation and participating in fittings.
  11. Liaising with manufacturers to ensure production standards.
  12. Contributing to marketing activities like fashion shows and photo shoots.
  13. Inspecting final products for quality and resolving production issues.
  14. Refining designs based on feedback and market trends.
  15. Managing design budgets including materials and production costs.
  16. Keeping updated with industry developments and technological advancements.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, and Adobe Free Hand.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or significant experience in creating tech packs.
  • Knowledge of pattern construction and garment construction.
  • Prior experience working with tech packs.
