Position: Regulatory Certification Manager in the Automotive Industry

Your primary responsibility is to ensure that vehicles and automotive products comply with local, national, and international regulations and standards.

You will oversee the certification process from start to finish, working closely with regulatory agencies, internal teams, and external partners to ensure compliance and timely approval.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Regulatory Compliance Oversight: Stay up-to-date with all relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines governing the automotive industry. Interpret regulatory requirements and communicate them effectively to internal stakeholders. Develop and maintain compliance strategies to ensure products meet all necessary certifications.
  2. Certification Process Management: Manage the end-to-end certification process for vehicles and automotive components. Coordinate with engineering, design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to gather necessary documentation and data for certification. Liaise with regulatory agencies and third-party certification bodies to facilitate testing, inspections, and audits.
  3. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate records of certification activities, including test results, compliance reports, and regulatory correspondence. Generate regulatory documentation such as technical files, conformity assessment reports, and declarations of conformity. Track data and metrics to monitor certification progress and identify areas for improvement.
  4. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate regulatory requirements into product development processes. Provide guidance and support to engineers, designers, and project managers to ensure regulatory compliance is incorporated from the beginning. Participate in design reviews and risk assessments to identify and mitigate compliance risks.
  5. Risk Management and Issue Resolution: Identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Investigate compliance issues, non-conformities, and customer complaints related to certification. Work with relevant stakeholders to address issues promptly and implement corrective actions.
  6. Regulatory Advocacy and Representation: Represent the organization in regulatory discussions, industry forums, and standardization bodies. Advocate for the company's interests while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Build and maintain positive relationships with regulatory authorities, industry associations, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Several years of experience in regulatory compliance, certification, or quality management within the automotive industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive regulations and standards, such as FMVSS, ECE, CCC, ISO, and SAE.
  • Familiarity with certification processes and requirements in major automotive markets, including South Africa.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and external partners.
