Job description

Job Title: Regional Accountant - South Africa, Namibia & Botswana

Division: Weir Minerals EMEA

Location: Alrode

Onsite

Purpose of Role:

Responsible for accounting, financial reporting and compliance for the South Africa, Namibia and Botswana business of Weir Minerals. The regional accountant ensures accurate, complete and timely financial reporting and statutory reporting, while ensuring compliance with regulations and accounting policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety First:

Fixed Assets Accounting:

  • Allocate, capitalize, and dispose of assets.
  • Ensure accurate depreciation and maintain the Capex Register.
  • Oversee annual impairment exercises.
  • Ensure capital investments are appropriately approved and aligned to budgeted spend.

General Accounting and Financial Reporting:

  • Support preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements + supporting reconciliations.
  • Review payroll journals, expense accruals and expense analysis.
  • Manage the deliverables and the work performed by Weir’s outsourced service provider.
  • Monitor and review financial transactions and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare detailed financial analysis and reports for financial and business stakeholders.
  • Manage intercompany transactions and ensure reconciliation and elimination for group consolidation.

Banking and Treasury:

  • Review bank reconciliations and payments.
  • Manage treasury and cash across the business in line with Group policies.
  • Manage FX risk through effective hedging and Balance Sheet management.
  • Manage forex deals and cashflow forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with local banking regulations.
  • Coordinate audit preparations and ensure compliance.

Audit, Control & Compliance:

  • Where required, prepare and implement financial policies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, local statutory requirements and accounting standards.
  • Prepare regulatory reports, including statutory accounts.
  • Support the internal and external audit processes, ensuring all necessary documentation, explanations, and reconciliations are prepared.
  • Perform controls and compliance testing across the business.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Qualified CA with 5+ years of relevant experience and 2+ years of leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; SAP knowledge is a plus.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication and management abilities.
  • Attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance.
