VACANCY ~ ECONOMICS & ACCOUNTING TEACHER

Founded in 1896 and set in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Michaelhouse is a leading Anglican Independent senior Boarding School for boys from Grade 8 to Grade 12.

Michaelhouse is looking for a dynamic, experienced Economics and Accounting Teacher, who is passionate about teaching, and is well versed in boys’ education. Economics and Accounting are popular electives at Michaelhouse with our matrics enjoying a high degree of success in the IEB examinations. The Economics and Accounting departments are innovative and interactive spaces. An applicant who enjoys collaborating, sharing knowledge and who consistently seeks to improve, in what is already a successful environment, would flourish in this position.

Commencement date: January 2026

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:

  • Have a degree with an Economics major, and at least Accounting I.
  • Have a professional teaching qualification.
  • Have proven successful experience in teaching Economics to Grades 10 to 12 in the IEB curriculum.
  • Have experience as an IEB Grade 12 Economics marker.
  • Have the ability to teach Accounting Grade 8 – 10. Teaching up to Grade 12 would be advantageous.
  • Have excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation in the classroom.
  • Have the ability to use technology as a tool for teaching and learning.
  • Have a current SACE registration.
  • Have a recent police clearance check.
  • Support the Christian ethos of the school.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Teaching a range of Economics classes, and mainly junior Accounting classes.
  • Full involvement in a variety of co-curricular and pastoral duties in the school.

Accommodation will be provided on or near the Michaelhouse Estate to facilitate the successful fulfilment of duties and full involvement in the school programme.
