Department : Data Management Services - Oracle Reporting

Principal Business Consultant

Core Description: To provide a stable and secure production database environment that performs in alignment with predefined standards and is recoverable in case of hardware failure or disaster situations.

Responsibilities include solving complex problems to deliver real business value across a wide range of data solutions, developing best practices, and driving improvements in data engineering, including automation of daily actions.

Key Deliverables / Primary Functions:

1. Compile and maintain the integrity of a Configuration Management Data Base in alignment with BCX's standards and using prescribed systems.
2. Utilise the BCX Remedy system for request, incident, and problem handling, implementing preventative actions as required.
3. Continuously monitor performance, analyse trends, tune databases for optimal performance, and build a known error database (KEDB) for problem handling.
4. Build and maintain support structures for consultation purposes.
5. Stay updated with the latest release versions, ensure approval through UAT and QA processes, design and execute release plans, maintain the DSL, and report license issues.
6. Monitor and report on space utilization, execute trend analysis, and manage alerts and escalations.
7. Monitor memory and CPU utilization continuously.
8. Develop monitoring methodologies and tools, and report on system availability or uptime.
9. Identify, propose, and implement effective backup strategies to ensure service continuity and monitor these strategies regularly.
10. Validate disaster recovery (DR) plans considering replication, snapshots, or remote copies as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications:

NQF 6: 3-year Degree/Diploma/National Diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science OR NQF 4: Grade 12

Experience:

5 to 7 years' experience in the administration of Apps DBA Oracle databases including Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2, Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Weblogic, and Redhat Enterprise Linux 7+.
