Job Summary

The role will be within the Group Risk ESG Risk Measurement function. The function is responsible for the development, implementation, and embedment of various models and frameworks.

The incumbent will mainly drive the development, maintenance, and implementation of various ESG and climate risk related models for the group.

Job Description
Accountabilities:
  • Develop models in-house by ensuring model builds are of sufficient quality, and producing detailed model build documentation.
  • Develop Physical and Transition Risk, and other climate related models to evaluate the impact on the group.
  • Work with climate related and bank related datasets – sourcing, analyzing, and processing.
  • Use the latest techniques, coding languages, and packages to develop solutions.
  • Stay abreast of climate related topics, modelling techniques, and discussions.
  • Work with stakeholders across the bank to develop tailored solutions related to climate analytics.
  • Embed climate risk analytics across the group.
  • Support and develop climate risk scenario analysis and stress testing frameworks.
  • Develop theoretical understanding and practical application of model development methodology through building and applying models.
  • Ensure full governance processes for modelling are followed from inception to validation.
  • Ensure successful model implementation, assessment, and ongoing improvement.
  • Visualize model outputs for clarity and interpretability.
Stakeholder Management:
  • Engage stakeholders actively to ensure full involvement in processes and delivery.
  • Challenge model builds by discussing details and ideas.
  • Manage relationships with business units, understanding their requirements and feedback.
  • Defend model outputs during stakeholder inquiries.
  • Engage stakeholders on innovative solutions and draft proof of concepts.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • A relevant postgraduate degree in a numerate field (e.g., Maths, Stats, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Computer Science).
  • 4-10 years of banking-related experience.
  • Coding skills in Python preferred.
  • Studying for a professional qualification (e.g., Fellow of the Actuarial Society of SA) preferred.
  • Experience or education in Climate Risk is advantageous.
Education

Bachelor's Degrees and Advanced Diplomas in Physical, Mathematical, Computer, or Life Sciences are required.
