Job Description
The Learning & Development Manager will take responsibility for the co-ordination and execution of operational training for the hotel.
The Manager will work closely with operational leaders to develop and lead on-the-job training in line with Fairmont's standard of operation in order to enhance guest experience and colleague engagement.
General Duties and Responsibilities :
- Coordinate and execute operational training for the hotel.
- Oversee Hotel Training committee and Departmental Trainers.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and guidance to ensure consistent on-the-job training.
- Support, develop, and mentor Departmental Trainers.
- Manage the implementation and upkeep of training checklists, ensuring high standards across departments.
- Monitor operations, guest feedback, and audit results to identify training needs and validate program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with leadership to address issues from audits and guest feedback.
- Facilitate onboarding for new hires, including Train the Trainer and corporate programs.
- Ensure effective completion of new hire orientations and monitor onboarding experience.
- Promote service standards and create a monthly Training calendar.
- Model professional leadership aligned with our culture.
- Manage Talent & Culture projects and conduct training needs analysis biannually.
- Ensure all new hires attend mandatory induction and maintain individual training plans.
- Present Learning and Development Plan quarterly to leadership.
- Coach colleagues on training and educational opportunities.
- Administer Hotel Educational Assistance Policy and generate usage reports.
- Participate in other programs and committees as directed.
- Contribute to Employee Equity and Engagement initiatives.
- Develop and implement new Talent & Culture programs as needed.
- Assist with Employee Engagement Survey action planning.
- Support the Talent & Culture Coordinator with monthly programs.
- Ensure a strong health and safety culture, compliance, and employee awareness.
- Participate in the hotel's Sustainability Program.
- Develop employees for future promotions and maintain career succession plans.
- Maintain relationships with hotel schools and oversee internships and youth development programs.
- Represent the hotel at career fairs and similar events.
- Coordinate and implement hotel and employee training programs to promote guest service excellence.
- Identify training needs, develop plans, and ensure training attendance and records are maintained.
- Improve service and leadership skills through training strategies.
- Prepare and submit Mandatory Grant Applications and facilitate Learnership and Skills Programs.
- Participate in budget development and management aligned with financial goals.
- Support administrative functions within the Talent & Culture Office.
- Assist with BBBEE verification audits and reporting.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Qualification in Hospitality preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of operational hospitality experience.
- Leadership experience required.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer literacy.
- Ability to influence, drive initiatives, and work independently and collaboratively.
- Highly organized, proactive, and innovative.
- Strong energy and drive to overcome challenges.
