Research Investment Analyst

Job Overview: The Research Investment Analyst will support the investment team by conducting in-depth financial, business, strategic, and competitive analysis. They will produce objective research on public, private, and investment companies, build financial models, assess management teams and industry dynamics, support due diligence, and help develop a structured, data-driven research process. Working closely with the Director of Research and Investments, they will deliver insights that inform investment decisions across various sectors.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct in-depth research and financial analysis of companies targeted for investment or acquisition.
  2. Identify, research, and interpret the investment activity of successful investment firms to spot potential signals or strategic trends.
  3. Build and maintain financial models to evaluate historical performance and future projections.
  4. Perform valuation analyses within assigned industries or asset classes.
  5. Assess management team effectiveness and strategic incentives.
  6. Monitor market trends, industry developments, and investor activity impacting target companies.
  7. Review financial statements, regulatory filings, and disclosures to extract relevant insights.
  8. Attend quarterly calls and monitor communications with management and stakeholders.
  9. Produce clear, structured, and objective equity research reports to support unbiased investment decisions.
  10. Ensure research findings are well-documented and supported by data.
  11. Utilize research tools and conduct interviews to gather insights and strategies.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, accounting, or related fields. Postgraduate qualification preferred.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) qualifications are highly advantageous.
  • 5-8 years of experience in investment research, equity analysis, financial modeling, investment banking, or related fields.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements, earnings reports, and regulatory filings.
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience conducting due diligence interviews and research.
  • Attention to detail, analytical skills, and critical thinking.
  • Ability to work independently and present findings clearly.
  • Commitment to objective, unbiased research and ethical standards.
Physical and Location Requirements:

Capable of wearing necessary protective equipment and meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting. The candidate will work from GVW Group's offices in Durbanville, with potential relocation to Chicago, Illinois, or Miami, Florida, after one year. International travel may be required occasionally.
