Job description

Job Title: Senior Accountant

A well-established company in the earthmoving and mining industry is currently recruiting for a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying financial transactions in Isando, Kempton Park.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field (Masters or MBA preferred).
  • CPA, CMA, CFA, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in financial management, accounting, or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Acumatica, QuickBooks, SAP, Microsoft), with experience in Acumatica being a significant advantage.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of tax reporting and compliance.
  • Understanding of international finance and multi-currency environments (for global firms).
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with inventory, job costing, and project-based accounting.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger operations.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  3. Develop, manage, and oversee the company’s financial planning and analysis (FP&A) processes.
  4. Prepare financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  5. Support strategic initiatives and business planning through financial modeling and analysis.
  6. Assist in preparing financial statements in compliance with GAAP or IFRS.
  7. Analyze financial data and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
  8. Manage internal controls, financial audits, and risk assessments.
  9. Support audits by providing documentation and explanations.
  10. Manage internal controls, policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  11. Provide mentorship and guidance to finance/accounting staff.
  12. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational and financial goals.
