Job Summary

The purpose of this role is to conduct in-depth, specialized, and quality credit assessments and risk analyses on potential clients and the Commercial Portfolio. The goal is to enhance decision-making processes related to the bank's appetite for extending credit. This includes financial analysis, interpretation, and capturing client information such as company financial statements and qualitative data.

Job Description

Risk Management

  • Monitor client performance continuously for risk indicators and perform formal reviews at specified intervals to identify changes in the client's business or operating environment.
  • Ensure adherence to covenants and conditions, discuss deviations with the Sales team, and escalate issues to Line Management and Credit if necessary.
  • Follow ARMS credit requirements as per the Absa credit policy and report boundary events related to Operational Risk.
  • Collaborate with Product Industry Specialists to assist in client solutioning and credit application processes.
  • Identify high-risk clients requiring meetings between Credit and Business Support.
  • Request updated property valuations for security facilities as per credit policies.
  • Manage and communicate risks associated with outstanding securities.
  • Proactively identify problematic or high-risk clients and advise Credit accordingly, implementing loss prevention measures.
  • Manage the collection of financial statements as stipulated in credit policies.
  • Handle daily Odex, Referrals, REPL, and REPC processes, contacting clients on referral lists for rectification.

Credit Management

  • Explore innovative solutions for client credit requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with the bank’s credit policies and address any breaches appropriately.
  • Provide necessary reports and codes for clients.
  • Proactively manage credit risks within the client portfolio.
  • Manage the deal forum process to submit quality applications with sustainable credit solutions.

Portfolio Financial and Operational Management

  • Prepare reviews, amendments, and new applications for lending authorities.
  • Issue facility letters post-review and new facility approval.
  • Send reminder letters for expiring facilities as per policy timelines.
  • Contribute to non-interest income through recovery of manual fees.
  • Use Credit Risk Models (e.g., Agri, Public Sector, RiskCalc, Triad) to analyze client financials.
  • Provide Default Grading outputs and ensure accurate data entry in risk models.

Client Solutioning and Customer Service

  • Identify cross-sell opportunities based on financial analysis and industry trends.
  • Participate in sales best practices, providing credit input and monitoring sales progress.
  • Research industry trends to understand profitability and market position of clients.

Teamwork and Self Development

  • Attend team meetings, contribute ideas, and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Develop supportive relationships with colleagues and maintain contacts with specialists across banking groups.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes through training and self-development.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, or Credit Risk with five or more years of relevant experience.
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office, notably Excel.
