SGS Matrolab is seeking to fulfil key roles as Civil Engineering Site Laboratory Managers. The role requires the incumbent to manage a site laboratory. He / She will be responsible for all laboratory related tasks, on site laboratory tasks. He / She shall be responsible for the implementation, maintenance and improvement of our quality systems. To ensure that the laboratory functions smoothly, with excellent quality of service, the saving of manpower cost, which contribute to accuracy, productivity and profitability. To ensure all equipment are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. To ensure materials testing are completed in all laboratory division, including soils, asphalt, seals, concrete, aggregate with bench calculation as and when required for testing. The Laboratory Manager will ensure that the laboratory is clean at all times and will carry out all work-related instructions from the authorized personnel.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a person that is disciplined and treat colleagues and management with respect, deadline & revenue driven and possessing enough energy and passion to maintain good staff relationships. A successful career in delivering performance against agreed strategic objectives and ultimately ensuring that all quality and testing methods are observed, and any deviation is reported without delay.

Job Description

Primary Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the relevant Regional Manager and are expected to:

  1. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible for Laboratory Management production planning on site and meeting deadlines.
  2. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible to liaise with clients and relevant regional manager.
  3. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible to ensure reporting is correct before signing and distribution.
  4. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible for implementation of quality control systems and Health and Safety regulations in and around the laboratory.
  5. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible for multi-disciplinary site laboratory including Soils, Concrete, asphalt, Seals and Aggregates.
  6. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible to adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
  7. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible to assist the technicians with any job whether it is on site or inside the laboratory as per instruction from the authorized site supervisor /laboratory manager.
  8. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible to perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the authorized site supervisor/laboratory manager and regional manager.
  9. A Senior Site Laboratory Manager is responsible for following all SGS policies and procedures on site including but not limited to the payroll, leave, disciplinary procedure.
  10. Provide training for all staff as training needs are identified.
  11. Ensure all SGS mandatory (OI Toolbox/ Annual Integrity / Social Media etc) training is done as and when required.
  12. All timesheets, claim forms and payroll instructions are sent to the relevant departments timeously.
Qualifications

Education: Grade 12 & Civil/ Geotechnical/ National Diploma

Experience: 10 years relevant experience.

Competencies:

  • Drivers License
  • SANAS certificates: Lab systems & Internal auditing
  • Competent and qualified to do all tests (TMH 1 and SANS) in all laboratory divisions including soils, asphalt, seals, concrete / aggregate
  • Competent and qualified to do quality laboratory control and implementation
  • Competent and qualified to supervise and execute all field work
  • Be familiar with COLTO
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety
