Primary Purpose of the Job
To oversee and manage a sales team, ensuring the achievement of sales targets and the delivery of exceptional customer service, both pre- and post-sale. This role holds overall responsibility for meeting team sales goals and strategic objectives, including partnerships (e.g., OUTsurance, Netstar) and social media reviews. Additionally, the Sales Manager is responsible for recruiting, staffing, and training the sales team to ensure optimal performance.
Housekeeping
- Form part of the opening and closing team of the branch.
- Manage the floor layout, presentation, vehicle movement, price cards, and vehicle cleanliness within agreed standards of excellence.
- Check at least 50 price cards per day for accuracy, neatness, correct vehicle statuses, and association with the correct vehicle.
- Evaluate and action price recommendations for at least 10 vehicles per week.
- Manage aging stock within business guidelines.
- Manage reserved vehicles (daily sales meetings):
- Ensure compliance with reserve rules.
- Audit reserved list daily.
- No cash vehicles older than 24 hours (no vehicle may be invoiced without payment/deposit).
- No finance deals older than 72 hours.
- Ensure vehicles are presented according to company guidelines via SOPs (e.g., Rag in a Bag, Inspect, Accept, or Reject).
- Ensure vehicles on promotional auction are presented per company guidelines (balloons, promo stickers, etc.).
Sales
- Ensure all sales executives meet or exceed sales targets and KPIs.
- Achieve sales finance targets.
- Promote auxiliary products (OUTsurance, Netstar, social media).
- Track and measure sales performance daily; implement corrective actions if targets are missed.
- Manage customer interactions on the floor to promote excellent service.
- Provide online auction customer service within agreed parameters.
Effective Lead Management of All Sales Leads
Ensure leads are closed or converted within agreed parameters and allocated within SLA standards. Conduct spot checks to maintain high service levels. Oversee vehicle reconditioning costs within SLAs.
Ensure Customer Receives Excellent After-Sales Care
Deliver Natis to customers within service levels, handle complaints professionally and promptly, conduct follow-ups, and manage escalated concerns to protect the brand.
Human Resources
- Prepare monthly staff rosters in advance to ensure sufficient coverage during peak hours.
- Monitor attendance against shift lists.
- Conduct daily sales meetings to discuss targets, performance, reserved and sold stock, housekeeping, etc.
- Lead weekly branch sales meetings with presentations covering sales tracking, team performance, action plans, and housekeeping.
- Hold documented one-on-one sessions with sales staff twice a month to review performance, support needs, and improvement areas.
- Manage bottom performers per “Project Excellence”.
- Approve all sales commission sheets before payroll deadlines.
- Plan and log staff leave at the beginning of the year to ensure branch performance.
Sales Training
- Mentor sales staff for personal and professional growth.
- Present at least one training session per month on topics like customer service, sales skills, complaint management, lead management, and WeBuyCars systems.
- Coordinate with the National Sales Training Manager to develop study materials, questionnaires, and gather feedback on training quality.
- Provide weekly on-the-floor training on all sales aspects.
General
- Manage inventory per SOPs.
- Encourage adoption of alternative payment methods (Ozow, WalletDoc).
- Oversee daily outstanding payments (debtors, sold yard).
