ACCOUNTANT (PORTUGUESE SPEAKING) - East Rand

Position Info:

A Wholesale and Distributing Company in the East Rand is looking to fill the position of Accountant. This is a full-time, office-based role from 08h00 to 17h00, Monday to Friday.

The ideal candidate should be fluent in both English and Portuguese (speaking, reading, and writing), reside in the East Rand, and have reliable transport. Salary is market-related, with benefits including a provident fund and a company laptop. This vacancy is open to all South African citizens.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Processing daily cashbook entries and bank reconciliations.
  2. Processing monthly journals.
  3. Following up and finalizing insurance claims, analyzing paid insurances, and submitting monthly reports on insurance claims status.
  4. Handling bank queries and managing credit card administration, including reconciliation with the general ledger.
  5. Assisting the Financial Manager as required.
  6. Daily bank account data entry.
  7. Managing debtor accounts and coordinating with branch managers on outstanding balances.
  8. Managing petty cash transactions and maintenance.
  9. Preparing documents and invoices for cross-border transactions to Mozambique, including clearing documents.
  10. Ensuring correct calculation of duties and timely follow-up with clearing agents.
  11. Calculating and ensuring timely payments of INSS, IRPS, and VAT on Mozambique revenue authority systems.
  12. Maintaining the asset register and monthly depreciation.
  13. Preparing monthly management accounts.

Job Specifications and Requirements:

  1. A completed bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  2. Fluency in English and Portuguese (spoken, read, and written).
  3. Residing in the East Rand with own reliable transport.
  4. 4-5 years of experience as an accountant/bookkeeper at national and international levels.
  5. Experience with import and export is advantageous.
  6. Strong knowledge of universal accounting principles and regulations.
  7. Proficiency in Navision software is advantageous.
  8. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are mandatory.
  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a deadline-driven approach.
  10. Possession of a valid passport for international travel is advantageous.
