ENVIRONMENT & HEALTH RESEARCH UNIT JOHANNESBURG OFFICE

The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) strives to improve the nation's health and quality of life by funding and conducting relevant and leading health research.

It further aims to promote equity, career development, and progression.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Climate and Health Epidemiology (3 YEARS, Fixed Term)

The SAMRC's Environment and Health Research Unit (E&HRU) is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

This position is linked to a three-year research project, CliMMetA (Climate, Muscle function, and Metabolomics in Africa), funded by the Medical Research Foundation.

The project spans three countries: The Gambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

The successful candidate will be co-supervised by study co-principal investigators from SAMRC in South Africa and the University of Bristol, UK.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with coordination of study activities
  2. Data processing, analysis, and writing scientific manuscripts
  3. Create research translation outputs such as policy briefs and media articles
Requirements:
  • A PhD in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or medical statistics
  • Excellent data analysis skills, with proficiency in STATA or R
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Code 8 / 10 driver's license

Advantageous: Experience with geographical information systems (GIS)
