Job description

Financial Accountant Job Description

The role includes monthly and year-end financial accounting duties to ensure compliance with accounting standards.

It involves teamwork and liaising with other Ster-Kinekor departments.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure all reporting communications are cascaded to all Head Office Departments and HODs.
  2. Support Cinema Departments during monthly reporting, including validation and reconciliation of reports.
  3. Provide monthly Revenue and Profit & Loss reports to management for HO cost centers.
  4. Analyze budget and forecast variances and recommend actions to improve profitability.
  5. Prepare forecasts and budgets for all Head Office Departments and HODs.
  6. Review financial performance, including functions, accounts, and KPIs.
  7. Prepare monthly review decks and monitor action plans.
  8. Identify and report on cost-saving initiatives and projects.
  9. Manage cost centre reporting, analysis, and management daily and monthly.
  10. Conduct KPI analysis of income statements and liaise with Operations Managers.
  11. Ensure completeness of HR and payroll postings to balance sheets and income statements.
  12. Complete monthly HR reporting on salaries and HR expenses.
  13. Assist HR Business Partners with financial analysis of HR initiatives.
  14. Process invoices for payments after review.
  15. Maintain schedules for rental, utilities, and other expenses for analysis and reporting.
  16. Support Landlord queries and claims in coordination with finance analysts and managers.
  17. Prepare and post monthly journal entries.
  18. Maintain accruals and provisions, ensuring completeness.
  19. Assist other functions with reporting, including sales.
  20. Ensure VAT payments are calculated and claimed correctly.
  21. Complete statutory returns (VAT, RSC levies, etc.) and ensure timely payments.
  22. Support the year-end and interim audit processes by liaising with auditors.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics. Professional qualifications such as CPA or ACCA are preferable.

Experience and Knowledge

3-5 years of experience as an Accountant, Financial Analyst, or Controller. Retail experience is advantageous. Proficiency in SAP. Strong accounting knowledge, including IFRS, Tax, and VAT. Understanding of accounting packages and audit processes. Knowledge of management and cost accounting principles, including pricing models. Ability to perform duties as reasonably requested by management. Understanding of Ster-Kinekor's operational framework and policies. Strong internal controls and IT system knowledge.
